About The Show: The Only Way Is Essex (often abbreviated as TOWIE and pronounced "towie") is a British television show based in Essex, England. It shows "real people in modified situations, saying unscripted lines but in a structured way."The show is filmed just a few days in advance. Series 1 ran initially for four weeks, airing every Wednesday and Sunday. It is narrated by Denise van Outen, who is from Basildon, Essex. The show has been described by the Daily Mirror as Britain's answer to The Hills and Jersey Shore......The series returned for a third series on 25 September 2011 and was the final series to feature two of the original cast members Mark Wright whose departure was seen in the final episode whilst Kirk Norcross departed off screen like Childs. The series ended on 9 November 2011. Extra's Laura Bramley & Daryl Stacey On 2 December 2011 it was revealed that a large amount of the cast would not be returning for the fourth series in 2012 but will feature in the 2011 Christmas Special. The fourth series will begin In January 2012. You wouldn't watch a drama--or heaven forbid a sitcom--where the actors were left to make up their own words. So why would scripted reality be any more appealing? It's an oxymoron, pitched at and starring actual morons. And it's one that might be extending in the UK: ITV2 are reportedly looking to expand TOWIE's run from 12 to 48 weeks of the year. Yes, that's the same amount of air time as a soap!
