About The Series: Parenthood is an American comedy-drama television series developed by Jason Katims and produced by Imagine Television and Universal Media Studios. The first season premiered on March 2, 2010 on NBC. Loosely based on the 1989 film of the same title, Parenthood is the second adaptation of the film to air on television preceded by the 1990–91 television series.Following on the heels of the critically acclaimed TV series, Friday Night Lights, Jason Katims approached Ron Howard and Brian Grazer with the idea of creating an updated, modern adaptation of the 1989 film and bringing it to television. Production began in 2009 with Jason as the head writer, showrunner, and executive producer.Parenthood itself received mostly positive to mixed reviews, scoring a 61 out of 100 on Metacritic. Newark Star Ledger's Alan Sepinwall wrote that "Like the movie that inspired it......A family tree with Zeke (Craig T. Nelson) and Camille Braverman (Bonnie Bedelia), serving as the patriarch and matriarch. After forty six years of marriage, they've managed to keep their foundation intact by burying their problems underneath the surface for the sake of their, now adult, children. Adam (Peter Krause) is the first born and the ripest apple the tree has to offer. He runs a sneaker corporation, has a supportive wife, two children (boy and girl) and a beautiful home to share with them. He's a dog short of "The American Dream". Sarah (Lauren Graham), is the unstable daughter returning home at thirty-eight years of age with her rebellious daughter and sensitive son to live with Zeke and Camille. Crosby (Dax Shepard), is a happy-go-lucky bachelor living in the now, on a docked boat. He has no idea that his frivolous life is about to change tremendously. Then there is Julia (Erika Christensen)........Parenthood is a one-hour drama inspired by the box office hit of the same name; it follows the trials and tribulations of the very large, very colorful and imperfect Braverman family. Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham) is a financially strapped single mother trying to raise two teenaged kids, the bright but rebellious Amber (Mae Whitman), and sullen and sensitive Drew (Miles Heizer). On the home front, Sarah and her kids live with Sarah's larger-than-life, headstrong father, Zeek (Craig T. Nelson), and pillar-of-strength mother Camille (Bonnie Bedelia), who are dealing with their own marital issues. Meanwhile, Sarah's sister and complete antithesis, Julia (Erika Christensen) is a successful corporate attorney trying to juggle work and motherhood, alongside her loving but increasingly restless stay-at-home husband, Joel (Sam Jaeger). Commitment-phobe Crosby (Dax Shepard), Sarah's younger brother, is helping raise a five-year-old son he had out of wedlock with former flame Jasmine (Joy Bryant). However, it's Adam (Peter Krause), the oldest Braverman sibling, who has had to relinquish his expectations about what constitutes a "normal" family, as he, his quietly forceful wife Kristina (Monica Potter) and independent-minded teenage daughter Haddie (Sarah Ramos), struggle to cope with their eccentric son and Haddie's little brother Max (Max Burkholder), who has Asperger's Syndrome. Although each sibling and family has its own share of everyday challenges to grapple with, they still manage to be there for each other in their hours of need.
